Drug Interaction:
Tricyclic antidepressants include - Amitriptyline, Doxepin, Nortriptyline, Dothiepin, Amineptine, Imipramine, Clomipramine, Mianserin Refer- Amitriptyline
MAOIs potentiate action, hence should not be given concurrrently or within 14 days of stopping MAOIs. Potentiates catacholamines, sympathomemimetics, narcotics and alcohol. Reduces hypotensive activity of bethanidine, guanethedine. Barbiturates reduces antidepressant effect of Dothiepin. Raised serum concentration with methylphenidate. Cigarette smoking enhances metabolism.

Adverse Reaction:
Bone marrow depression and agranulocytosis, Reports of ventricular fibrillation and renal failure. Cholestatic jaundice exacerbation of psychotic manifestation, Cardiac arrhythmias, hypotension, Dry mouth, disturbances of accomodation, Tachycardia, constipation, drowsiness, postural Hypotension, tremors and skin rash. Withdrawal symptoms with abrupt cessation,insomnia, Irritability and excessive sweating.
Contra-Indications:
Recent myocardial infarction,neonates,heart block,cardiac arrhythmias,maniac, Pregnancy.
Special precautions:
Epilepsy,hypertension,glaucoma,urinary retension,gradual withdrawal.
