OXTRIPHYLLINE AND GUAIFENESIN - Systemic
1.Allergies-
Tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to
aminophylline, guaifenesin , oxtriphylline or theophylline.
2.Diet-
Make certain that your doctor know if you are on special diet, such as
high -protein, low carbohydrate or low protein, high carbahydrate diet
3.Pregnancy-
Oxtriphylline is used to treat asthma in pregnant women. However,use
of this medicine during pregnancy may cause unwanted effects such as
fast heart beat, irritability, or vomiting in the new born infant if the amount
in your blood is too high. Consult your doctor before use.
4. Breast-feeding-
Theophylline passes into breast milk and may cause irritabilty in nursing
babies. Guaifenesin has not been reported to cause problems in nursing babies
.
5.Children-
Use of this medicine is not recommended because of high alcohol content
6.Older adults-
Although there is no specific information comparing use of guiafenesin
in the elderly with use in other age groups, it is not expected to cause
different side effects or problems than it does in younger adults
7. Other medicines-
Tell your doctor if you are using any of the following-
Beta-adrenergic blockers - these medicines may prevent oxtriphylline
from working properly
Cimetidine or
Ciprofloxacin or
Clarithromycin or
Enoxacin or
Mexitiline or
Pentoxifylline or
Tacrine or
Troleandomycin - these medicines may increase the effects of oxtriphylline
Moricizine or
Phenytoin or
Rifampicin - these medicines may decrease the effects of oxtriphylline
smoking tobacco or marijuna - starting or smoking smoking may change
the effectiveness of this medicine
8. Other medical problems-
Make sure you tell your doctor if you have any other medical problems
especially-
Convulsions - oxtriphylline may make this condition worse.
Heart failure or
Liver disease or
Underactive thyroid- the effects of oxtriphylline may be increased
