Drug Interaction:
Potentiates oral anticoagulants, methotrexates and phenytoin.
Potentiates antidiabetic effect of sulphonylureas.
Action antagonised by p-aminobenzoic acid and procaine group of anaesthetics.
Adverse Reaction:
Stevens- Johnsons syndrome, agranulocytosis, aplastic anaemia. GI symptoms,
Hypersensitivity skin reactions, renal impairment, lumbar pain, haematuria, oliguria, anuria,
and crystallisation.
Thrombocytopenia, leucopenia, eosinophilia.
Hypoglycaemia, hypothyroidism, jaundice in new born
Contra-Indications:
Sensitivity to sulphonamides, severe renal/hepatic impairment, porphyria, SLE
infants below 2 months.
Special precautions:
Renal insufficiency, elderly, blood dyscrasias, G6PD defienciency, AIDS, pregnancy
Indication:

Susceptible infections
Adult- 2-4g /day
May increase up to 6g/day
Child - 75mg/kg subsequently 150mg mg/kg in divided doses
