Drug Interaction:
Neuromuscular blockade potentiated by anaesthetics and musle relaxants antagonised by calcium and neostigmine. May be inactivated by betalactum antibiotics.
Indication:
Urogenital, respiratory , CNS, G.I., and Soft tissue infections due to staphylococci
Adverse Reaction:
Large dose cause neuromuscular blockade. Ototoxicity, nephrotoxicity, diarrhoea, Maladsorption of fat, fullness in the ear, Elevation of serum aminotransferases.
Contra-Indications:
Hypersensitivity to kamamycin,pregnancy.
Special precautions:
Can cause otoxicity and nephrotoxicity. In impaired renal functions monitor blood levels, myasthena gravis.
Dosages/ Overdosage Etc:
Urogenital, respiratory , CNS, G.I., and Soft tissue infections due to staphylococci
Dosage:
Supression of intestinal bacteria - As an adjunct to mechanical cleansing of the large bowel in short term therapy- 1g every hour, followed by 1g every 6 hours for 36 to 72 hours. Hepatic coma- 8 to 12/day in divided doses.
