Adverse Reaction:
Anaphylactic reaction. Pseudomembranous colitis, Superinfection, Anaphylaxis, Diarrhoea, Local reactions, Blood dyscrasias, Rash.
Contra-Indications:
Hypersens to cephalosporins/penicillins
Special precautions: Infants less than 1 month, impaired renal function.
Dosages/ Overdosage Etc:
A third generation drug
Dosage: Adults - Usual daily dose 1 to 2g once a day or equally divided dose twice in a day. Do not exceed total daily dose of 4g. For surgical prophylaxis- 1g dose half to 2 hours before surgery.
Children - Serious infections other than meningitis, 50 to 75mg/kg/day(not to exceed 2g) in divided dose every 12 hours. Meningitis - 100mg/kg/day(not to excceed 4g) in divided doses every 12 hours, with or without loading dose of 75mg/kg.
Storage: Protect from light, After reconstitution protection from normal light is not necessary.
