Interacting drugs- summary
Anticoagulants incr increase the anticoagulant effect of of Warfarin and anisidione Risk of bleeding increased.
Glucogon with -
Anticoagulants- May increase the anticoagulant effect of of Warfarin and anisidione The risk of bleeding may be increased. the mechanism of interaction is unkonwn and complicated
Oral anticoagulants- The hypoprothrombiemic effects may be increased, possibly with bleeding. The interaction may occur after several days of therapy and appears to be dose related. Monitor prothrombin time and adjust oral anticoagulant dose accordingly.
Adverse Reaction:
Glucagon:
Occassional nausea and vomiting, this may occur with hypo-lycaemia.
Generalised allergic reactions including urticaria, respiratory distress and hypotension have been reported.
Dosages/ Overdosage Etc:
Indication-
Acute hypoglycemia, Insulin coma
Dosage-
Adults and children under 25kg- 0.5mg over 25kg - 1mg all by s.c. or i.m. injection if no response within 10 minutes, administer i.v. glucose when patient responds give oral carbohydrates
Patient Information:
1.Allergies- tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to glucagon or other proteins. Also tell your doctor if youare allergic to any other substances, such as foods, presrvatives or dyes.
2.Pregnancy - make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or if you may become pregnant.
3.Breast feeding- studies in animals have shown that high doses of gemfibrozil may iincrease the risk of some kinds of tumors. Therefore you should consider this while deciding whether toi breast-feed yourbaby while taking this medicine.
4 Children - not recommended in childen below 2 years of age since cholesterol is needed for normal development.
5. Elderly- not expected to cause different side effects in older people than it does in younger adults.
6. Other medicines - Let your doctor know what other medicines you are taking, so that he can advice you accordingly. if you are taking any no-predcription or OTC drugs
7. Other medical problems - Tell your doctor if you have any other medical problems especially - Diabetes mellitus - or Insulinomia (tumors of the pancreas glands that make too much insulin ) blood sugar concentration may decrease Pheochromocytoma- glucogon can cause high blood pressure
8. Missed dose - If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. however, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double doses.
9. Storage - Keep out of reach of children. Store away from heat or direct sunlight. Do not store the capsule in bathroom, near the kitchen sink, or in other damp places.
10. Outdated medicines - Do not keep outdated medicine or medicine no longer needed. Be sure that any discarded medicine is out of reach of children.
