This leads to an increase in the permeability of the cell membrane to cholride ions with hyper polarization of the nerve or muscle cell in paralysis and death of the parasite
Pharmacokinetics:
Ivermectin is absorbed from the GI tract following oral administration. Peak plasma concentration is acheived in 4 hrs after administration. It is absorbed well on empty stomach. it is highly protein bound(93%).
It has long terminal half-life of 27 hrs and apparent volume of distribution of about 47 hrs. Ivermectin is metabolised in the liver and excreted in feces with less than 1% in urine and 2% in breast milk.
