Moderate to severe pain

Contra-Indications:
Cautions-
Opioid anagesics should be used with caution in patients with impaired respiratory
function( avoid in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) and asthma( avoid during
acute attack) hypotension, urethral stenosis, shock, myasthenia gravis, prostatic
hypertrophy, obstructive or inflammatory bowel disorders, diseases of billiary tract,
and convulsive disorders.
Reduce dose is recommended in elderly or debilitated patients, in hyperthyroidism
and aderenocortical insufficiency
Contra-indications
Opioid analgesics should be avoided in patients with acute respiratory depression
and when there a risk of paralytic ileus
Also contraindicated in conditions associated with raised intracranial pressure and
in head injury
Comatose patients should not treated with opioid anagesics
Hepatic impairment-
Opioid anagesics may precipitate coma in patients with hepatic impairment,
avoid use or reduce dose
Renal Impairment-
The effects of opioid anagesia are increased and prolonged and there is
increased cerbral sensitivity when patients with renal impairment are
treated with opioid analgesics, avoid use or reduce dose.

1 tablet gradually increased to 3 tablets every 6 hours

Not recommended in palliative care
Pregnancy and lactation:
Pregnancy-
Respiratory depression and withdrawal symptoms can occur in neonate if opioid
analgesics are used during pregnancy, also gastric statsis and inhalation
pneumonia has been reported in the mother if opioid anagesics are used
during labour.
