Indications-
Insomnia - short term use
Adverse Reaction:
Side effects-
Drowsiness and lightheadedness the next day,
confusion and ataxia( especially in the elderly)
amesia may occur, dependence
Contra-Indications:
Contraindications-
respiratory depression , marked neuromuscular respiratory weakness
including unstable myasthenia gravis, acute pulmonary insufficiency
sleep apnoea syndrome, not for use alone or to treat depression
(or anxiety associated with depression ) or chronic psychosis
Cautions-
Hepatic impairment-
benzodiaepines can precipitate coma if used in hepatic impairment
Renal Impairment-
patients with renal impairment have increased cerebral sensitivity to
benzodiazepines , start with small doses in severe impairment

Indications-
Insomnia - short term use
Dose-
1mg at bed time
increased to 1.5 or 2mg if required
Elderly or debilated - 0.5 or 1 mg
Child- not recommended
Pregnancy and lactation:
Pregnancy-
risk of neonatal withdrawal symptoms when benzodiazepines
are used during pregnancy. Avoid regular use and use inly if
there is a clear indication
Breast feeding-
should be avoided during breast feeding
