1.Allergies-
Tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to
contrast media eg gadodiamide, gadopentetate, gadoteridol.
Also tell your healthcare care professional if you are allergic to any other
substances such as foods. preservatives or dyes.
2.Pregnancy-
Studies have not been done in pregnant women. However, studies in
animals has shown that MRI contrast agents caused a delay in
development of the animal fetus and produced other side effects.
3. Breast-feeding-
It is not known what amount of MRI contrast agents passes into breast milk.
However your doctor may want you to stop breast feeding for some time
after you receive an MRI agent
4.Children-
Although there is no specific information comparing use of MRI contrast agents
in children with use in other age groups, this medicine is not expected to cause
different side effects or problems than it does in adults.
5 .Older adults-
These contrast agents have been tested and have not shown to cause
different side effects or problems in older people, than it does in other
younger age groups
6. Other medical problems-
Make sure you tell your doctor if you have any other medical problems
especially-
Allergies or asthma- if you have a history of asthma you may be at greater
risk of having an allergic reaction
Anemia or
Low blood pressure- MRI contrast agents may make the condition worse
Eplilepsy- there may be an increased chance of seizures
Kidney disease- kidney disease can cause MRI agents tostay in the body
for longer time than usual, which can chance of side effects
Sickle cell disease - there may a greater risk of blockage of blood vesels
in patients with this condition.
