Drug Interactions -summary-
Doxylamine enhances effects of CNS depressants eg alcohol, barbiturates, hypnotics,
opiod analgesics, anxiolytic sedatives and antipsychotics
Atropine, TCAs, MAOIs - can mask signs of otoxicity caused by aminoglycosides
INH ,penicillamine, and OC require greater pyridoxine dose .
Pyridoxine reduces the effects of levodopa, phenobarb and phenytoin
Indication:
Pregnancy associated nausea and vomiting
Adverse Reaction:
Acute dystonic reactions and long lasting impaired consciousness in child.
CNS depression including slight drowsiness to deep sleep, lassitude, dizziness,
incordination
Headaches, psychomotor impairment and anti-muscarinic effects.
Rarely rashes and hypersensitivity reactions,
blood disorders, convulsions,
sweating, myalgia, extrapyrimidal effects, tremor, hypotension, hair loss,
severe peripheral neutropathies with long term admin of large doses of pyridoxime
Contra-Indications:
Severe liver disease, avoid alcohol
Premature infants or full term neonates
Special Precautions
May impair ability to drive or operate machinery
Angle closure glaucoma, urinary retention, prostatic hypertrophy
or pyloroduodenal obstruction
eplilepsy, hepatic impairment
elderly, lactation
Dosages/ Overdosage Etc:
Indication-
Pregnancy associated nausea and vomiting
Dosage-
Adult- 2 tablets at bed time
In severe cases or in cases with nausea/vomiting during the day
increase dosage by 1 tablet in morining and/or after noon
Pregnancy and lactation:
Observe caution
