Hypertension/hypotension -rare

CNS-

Drowsiness 16% Dizziness 8% Nervousness 6% Headache 4%

DERMATOLOGIC-

Alopecia ,Rash -rare

GI-

Indication-

Depression

Dosage-

Not recommended for use in children < 12 years of age Adults - 150mg /day ( outpatients ) and 225mg/day ( hospitalised patients)

May be given as a single dose or in divided doses Therapeutic effects are seen within 3 to 7 days although 2 to 3 weeks are usally necessary

1.Allergies-

Tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to

Maprotiline. Also tell your healthcare care professional if you are allergic to

any other substances such as foods. preservatives or dyes.

2.Pregnancy-

Maprotiline has not been studied in pregnant women. However, this

medicine has not shown to cause birth defects or other problems in

animal studies.

3. Breast-feeding-

Maprotiline passes into breast milk. however, this medicine has not

been reported to cause problems in nursing babies.

4.Children-

Studies of this medicine has been done only in adult patients and there is no

specific information comparing maprotiline in children with use in other age groups.

5.Older adults-

Drowsiness, dizziness or lightheadedness , confusion, vision problems,

dryness of mouth, constipation, difficulty in urination, may be likely to

occur in elderly patients.

6. Other medicines-

Tell your doctor if you are using any of the following-

Amphetamine or

Appetite suppressants or

Medicine for asthma or

Medicine for cold or fever - using these medicines with maprotiline

may cause unwanted side effects

CNS depressants - taking with maprotiline may increase CNS depressant

effects.

MAO inhibitors- at least 14 days should be allowed between stopping treatment

with one medicine and starting with other

7. Other medical problems-

Make sure you tell your doctor if you have any other medical problems

especially-

Alcohol abuse or

Difficulty in uination or

Enlarged prstrate or

Glaucoma or

Mental illness or

Stomach or intestinal problems - maprotiline may make the condition

worse

Heart or blood vessel disease or

Overative thyroid - serious effects on your heart may occur

Liver disease - high blood levels may occur increasing the chance of

side effects.
