Drug Interaction:
Direct inhibition of conduction system and depression of myocardial contractility with calcium channel antagonists. Increased incidence of seizures in patients on neuroleptics and antidepressants. Increased risk of bronchospasm in patients on Beta-blockers. Incomptability with some antihistamines.
Adverse Reaction:
Rare,anaphylactic reaction,acute pulmonary oedema, acute hypertensive crisis in patients with pheochromocyroma. Precipitation of contrast agents and abnormal proteins in patients with myeloma/Waldensroms macroglobulinemia with fatal consequences. Bronchospasm. oedema, hypotension, flush, metallic taste, dizziness, headache, confusion, hallucinations, depression and convulsion) rare. Interferes with prothrombin time, thyroid function test, false positive urinary proteins, black discolouration with cupric sulphate urinary glucose test suggesting alkoptonuria.
Contra-Indications:
Hypersens, asthma and atropy, poor cardiac/renal function, myleoma. Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia.
Special precautions: Sickle cell disease, epilepsy, pheochromocytoma, cerebral infracts, pregnancy, lactation.
