Deliver desflurane from a vaporiser specifically designed and designated for use with desflurane
Patient Information:
1. Allergies- Tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reactions to desflurane or other related medicines. Also tell your doctor if youn are allergic to any other substances such as foods, preservatives or dyes.
2. Pregnancy- not studied in pregnant women. It did not cause birth defects in animal studies
3. Breast feeding- not recommended. Your doctor may want to stop breast feeding for about 24 hours after receiving this medicine
4. Children- has not shown to casue different side effects or problems than it does in adults.
5. Elderly- your doctor will take age into account when deciding on the right amount of dsflurane for you.
6. Other medicines- tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following- Street drugs- such as amphetamines, cocaine, marijuana, phencylidine andheroin or other narcotics - serious side efects may occur if your doctor gives you an anesthetic without knowig that you have taken another medicine.
7. Other medical problems- tell your doctor if you have any other medical problems- Discease that can cause muscle weakness such as familial periodic paralysis, muscular dystrophy, myastenia gravis or Eaton- Lambert syndrome or heat or blod vessel disease - chance of side effects may be increased, but can prevented if your doctor knows that these conditions are present before giving you an anesthetic Malignant hyperthermia , during or after receiving an anesthestic - signs include very high fever, fast and irregular heartbeat, muscle spasms, or tightness and breathing problems- these side effets may occur again.
8. Missed dose- If you miss a dose of this medicine take it as soon as possible. However if it is almost time for your next dose go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double doses.

Desflurane is a volalite liquid inhalation anesthetic minimally biotransformed in the liver. Do not use desflurane as the sole agent for anesthetic induction in patients with coronary artery disease, or in patients where increases in heart rate or blood pressure are undesirable.
