Drug Interaction:
No reports of cetrizines hazadous intreractions with other drugs so far.
Concomittant use with alcohol or diazepam does not impair psychomotor performance any more than that impaired by alcohol alone.
Concomitant use of pseudoephedrine with other sympathomimetics decongestants , appetite supressants, amphetamine, furazolidone or MAO inhibitors can occassionally cause increased BP and hypertensive crisis.
The antihypertensive action of bretylium, guanethidine, bethanidine, debrisoquine, reserpine, methyldopa, mecamylamine, alpha & beta blockers may be countered by concomittant use of pseudoephedrine
Indication:
Seasonal allergic rhinitis
Adverse Reaction:
With cetrizine there have been reports of mild sedation and drowsiness.
However the incidence of sedation and antimuscarrinic side effects is remarkably low.
Other side effects include, headache, dizziness, nausea, gastrointestinal discomfort and fatigue.
Pseudoehedrine may cause palpitations, headache, dizziness, nausea, anxiety, restlessness, tremor, dyspnea, dysuria, insomnia, hypertension, and arrhythmias,.
Urinary retension has been reported especially in patients with enlarged prostate.
Contra-Indications:
Hypersensitivity to any of the components
. Lactation
Severe hypertension/ severe coronary heart disease
Concurrent MAO inhibitor therapy/ furazolidone usage.
Special precautions:
Use this FDC judiciously and sparingly, excercising due caution, in patients with hypertension, diabetes melilitus, hyperthyroidism, or prostrate hypertrophy.
No specific data on the use of cetrizine or pseudoephidrine during pregnancy. Use with caution in pregnancy
Caution while using in elderly and renal impaired patients
Patients are advised against driving ,or performing skilled tasks, or operating machinery, until it is established their performance is not impaired.

Pharmacology/ Pharmacokinetics:
Pharmacology:
Cetrizine is a specific and long acting histamine H1 receptor antagonist with a low potential for drowsiness and antimuscarinic effects at pharmacologically acceptable doses. It has marked antiallergic properties and inhibits eosinophil chemotaxis during allergic response.
It has a rapid onset of action coupled with prolonged duration of effect. Rationale Psudopehedrine is a widely used mucosal decongestant with a direct and indirect sympathetic action.
It is well known as orarly effective nasal and bronchial mucosal decongestant
The FDC of cetrizine and slow release pseudoehedrine comphrensively treats the symptoms like itching, sneezing, rhinohea, lacrimation, and nasal congestion, associated with allergic rhinitis.
Pharmacokinetics:
Cetrizine is rapidly absorbed from the GIT after oral dosing, peak plasma concentrations being attained in about an hour.. It is highly plasma bound and has an elimination half life of 11 hours.. It is excreted primarily via the urine mainly as unchanged drugs.
Cetrizine is detected in breast milk. Psudoephedrine is almost completely absorbed from the GIT with negligable presystemic metabolism.
It is rapidly distributed through out the body. It is eliminated largely unchanged in the urine(55-99%) in 24 hours.
Its plasma half life is 5-8 hrs. Psudoephedrine crosses the placenta and it also present in breast milk at concentratins higher than those in plasma.
Pregnancy and lactation:
Pregnancy Exercise caution
Lactaion Not recommended
